I’m wanting to study nursing at university (applying in january). However, I don’t know whether to choose between a master in nursing or not. Can I do a undergraduate nursing degree and then do a master after? or do I need to do a Master of nursing course from the beginning?

You don’t need a masters, it’s there as an option for people who already have an undergrad degree and want to study pre reg nursing at a higher academic level. I remain to be convinced that it has any bearing on someone’s career as a nurse, particularly in the earlier years.

There is scope for further academic study post registration, this is what truly increases employability and furthers your career.

No. Any course which is labelled as pre registration nursing - whether it be BSc/BN or MSc, leads to registration with the NMC and being able to practice as a nurse. If you don't have a degree, do the undergrad. If you do already have a degree, either do the undergrad nursing in 3 years or postgrad in 2 - but bear in mind that, when you qualify, you'll start at the bottom of band 5 whichever one you do.

Yes.
If you mean do a pre-registration masters in nursing after a different degree, yes.
If you mean do a masters after a nursing degree, yes, however it's more common to get a bit of experience in practice before choosing which route to go down for a masters.

the postgraduate option is there for those already graduated in a different subject, to be able to complete nursing degree in a shorter time period. the postgrad is the same as the undergrad, so if you wanted to do nursing undergrad and a masters, you’d want to do a postgraduate course in a specific area of nursing ie research or QIS (neonatal)
