The poll isn't good.

beauford (who is probably the best problem-solver here), SsEe and RichE deserve to be on it.

I said at the begining that some modification has to be done. I'm going to add SsEe, mik1a and RichE. I haven't seen beauford do much lately so sadly beauford won't be on it....

Didn't beauford get through to the final 18 or so to go to the Cambridge thing for IMO selection?

Also. I think RichE is Richard Earl at Worcester college, Oxford. I only realised when Daniel Lunn phoned to tell me I had an offer and he mentioned that one of the tutors posts on the same message board as me. All this time. Haha. Just one slip up that I wouldn't have even realised I'd made could've cost me my place. I wonder if stuff I've written on these boards affected them giving me an offer...

All that only applies if RichE is actually Richard Earl.

I only know that he did exceptionally well at the BMO.

Someone else that deserves to be on that list is mathz. He's exceptionally knowledgeable and very skilled.

Wow, I'm honoured to be on the poll, even though I think my speciality is Physics.

Hrm. I don't warrant a mention?
Guess i still have a little way to go. I only taught myself basic trigonometry last February though, so i guess i've improved a little at least.

I voted for Fermat. He always gave the best solutions (and they were numerous when he was around). He was always modest and did not try to show off or choke you with his intelligence.

Yes, the poll does seem to miss out some of the best ones .

Haha. I'm on that list? I'm flattered enough (even though I have 0 votes!). My vote goes to Jonny W. I'll try to post here more often next year.

Hehe. There's way more than 10 that could go on that list....it's a pretty tough decision.

I've always like Jonny W, but I voted for Fermat...

I must admit, that I saw Fermat make a mistake once. Jonny W on the other hand I have not

Ok, ok, enough dissing me!

Lets make a list of all mathematicians here and narrow it down to ten. Then I'll make 'The Official Best Mathematician Award Thread'

Happy?

My vote would go to Drederick Tatum, I think he is only a first year at cambridge (only referring to the first year, and not cambridge!), but he got SSS in STEP which I think is amazing. I'm flattered to be nominated myself as well although I do regularly ask for help (and get it from better mathematicians) It's a strong interest and I will hopefully do at least half a maths degree.
