Is an EPQ worth taking, when do we start writing an EPQ if we choose to? how is it graded and who grades it?

Maybe if you get a lowering of your grade offer (usually 1 grade).
Maybe if its competitive and you feel you have the time to do one so you can stand out a little more with your application.
Maybe if you want to learn some more skills to do with writing larger compositions.

Not if you arent in control and confident with your A level grades.
Not if you dont have the time.

You can write it during Y12 or beginning of Y13. It is marked by your assigned EPQ supervisor. Some people are assigned topics others get to choose from a 5000 word essay or an artefact.

Given the choice I would rather have one extra grade on the main A levels.

Oh okay thank you so much for the all the information. One thing I don’t understand is how it is so much effort? How is writing an essay for example so hard to do? If your a good writer wouldn’t an EPQ be easy or is it also difficult for writers?

Do Universities actually like EPQ’s or do people just say that to persuade you init writing one?

Say for example the requirements for a course is AAB but your projected BBB would an EPQ allow you to get into that course?

An EPQ is unlikely to reduce your offer to BBB, but it's possible they might give you an offer of AAB/ABB. An EPQ is a good way to write about your interest in the subject in the PS
