A level mechanics question

Hi there. Struggling with the following 2 parts to the question.

Attachment 965006

Why is the minimum speed 9m/s? (Because vertical speed alters but horizontal always constant?)

And for part c how do I do it. Mark scheme says root(12^2-9^2)=root(63)
Then minus root(63)=root(63)-gt

It’s the mechanics 2019 mock paper if you’re wondering. Why is it doing initial speed of root(63)?

Minimum speed occurs when upward velocity is 0. So it would just be 9 ^2 + 0 ^2 which = 81. And then square root that.

It doesn’t use the vertical speed as 15m/s, you can find the mark scheme online it’s Mock paper 2019

Yeah, I’m screwed for stats and mechanics. I feel like the textbook does not compete with the real exam style questions they seem to come up with.

I feel like this ones going to be aids, you can’t know what kinda of weird wording they’re going to use. What did you learn for the data set?
