Where abouts in the City centre? Are you more the Haymarket end or Moor end?

Moor market for some fruit and veg + Aldi [ Go to consistent price + Aldi 6 ] + sometimes Asda. + occasionally Sainsburys. As a student you should also be looking for discounted stuff.

Exchange works?

Is it just fruit and veg?
Are you buying a lot?
Are you prepared to go to different places i.e like a bargain?

If you are at Hallam main site then your fruit and veg at Haymarket is limited to the co op. It is expensive but they do discount stuff. Tesco if you feel adventurous and bored to trek to the Wicker.

In general I would go the other way Moor Market (look around at prices and selection there are three main ones- Saturday from about 3pm is when they start to cheap off the strawberries.) - Sainsburys - best for bananas (discounted)- Iceland (discounted) near the milk. Then 5 mins over the road to Aldi or Waitrose if posh. Aldi gives consistent price and quality. Market sometimes cheaper and different variety,

If you ever get really bored then theres an Asda on Queens road plus Home Bargains and if you want a trek theres a Lidl about 1.25 miles up the road.. Also there are more exotic, specialist shops if you want Chinese or Indian veg down London road. Also a very big Chinese supermarket (KH oriental )very close to Aldi and an International supermarket Called Osmans on London road.

Think thats about your lot. If you want an adventure then you can go to the wholesale market on the Parkway. Called South Yorkshire Fresh Produce and Flower Centre.

Hi,

Current student here from the Uni of Sheffield. I love doing my food shop and regularly plan my shops with my friends/housemates and we go together, would recommend doing this makes it more fun! I like to do a big shop at aldi because its cheap but any large supermarket is good too as they are cheaper. You want to try avoid the smaller versions of the supermarkets as they are more expensive eg sainsburys local etc but they are good for odd bits. For my fruit and veg I love going to The Moor Market, its in the city centre in the Moor and has so much fruit and veg. It's super cheap and all from local small businesses which I like to support Hope this helps, feel free to ask anymore questions!

Hi Purple_Giraffe

I would definitely back everything Alisha has said here - The Moor Market is a great place to get fruit and veg. I was always jealous of my friends in city accommodation who could walk easily from their flat!

Hi Scottishlad888,

It's true that Sheffield has always been a big producer of stainless steel cutlery - it's how we got the nickname The Steel City! However, in more recent decades Sheffield has blossomed into a culture and sport hub of the North.

If you want to learn more about what Sheffield has to offer as a city, I'd recommend watching student vlogger Paula's city tour on our website. We also have a mini-guide to Sheffield, where current students talk about what they love about living here.

Let me know if you have any further questions - I grew up in Sheffield, so know the place really well
