Starting to write your personal statement?

Have you started exploring your university course options and now want to get started on drafting your personal statement? Here are some key things to think about when putting words to paper.

Do your research :cyber:
Find out as much about the course as possible. Look through the university website and order prospectuses or university guides. Attend any virtual events - it's your chance to chat to academics, current students and our applications team to get your questions answered.

Get the basics right
This is the part of your application where you really show your passion. Admissions tutors are going to see hundreds of personal statements, so make yours stand out. Make it easy to read with clear, concise sentences. Make sure you think about how well your structure flows.

Why this course?
You need to convince the admissions tutor that you have chosen the right course for you. Focus on why you want to study that subject, and how your current studies and experience have prepared you for the course. You can also mention non-academic activities, but don't make this the main focus, and make sure you say what you learned from them.

Keep it personal
The clue's in the title. Your personal statement should be personal. Be positive, be honest and really get over your enthusiasm for the course.
