I know I want to do engineering or an engineering-related course in uni. I know for sure I will do maths and physics a level. However, I am split between: further maths, chemistry, dt and english lit. I know english lit. is quite useless for engineering. However, I really do enjoy it. My best subject is DT and I enjoy chemistry. Also I know importance of further maths for engineering and I am interested in the subject. I believe my school does not allow more than 4 for as-level, so I am not too sure which route to undergo.

What exactly is it that draws you to English lit as an A-level? It may be it's something you can pursue in an extracurricular fashion, or it may be that A-level English Lit doesn't fit the bill anyway. It's very much a course in literary analysis/criticism; if you don't specifically like picking apart literature to the point you could write several paragraphs (or indeed an entire essay!) on just a couple lines from a book, it may not be as enjoyable compared to the same subject at GCSE, where you can focus more on broader thematic discussions.

I like the literary analysis behind books linking to wider historical and other contexts. Indeed I very much enjoy writing about a few lines and could write reams, especially regarding Shakespeare, or American Literature
