On UCAS i put my gcse combined science grade as an 8 as it only gave me an option to put one grade.
however i got an 8-8 in actual thing, do i need to change it?

I think theirs an option for other and you can write 8-8, that’s what I have done

why do you need to put in your GCSE grades in UCAS, what is it's significance??

You might still be able to change it, I’m not sure tho. I called UCAS every time I got unsure about my application, it does take long something from 20-50 minutes, but at the end you’ll get a clear answer. Also they’re very nice lol

Some universities look at your gcse grades or consider them as part of your application when deciding to give you an offer
