Hi guys,
This question may have been asked many a time before, but does anyone have any insight into the likelihood of being awarded a scholarship when you apply to a Masters at Oxford or Cambridge?
I have been vaguely looking into applying again - just in case my most recent round of grad interviews has gone badly (sigh) - and found a couple of interesting looking courses.
The only thing is, as things stand on the website, one course I am looking at (Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology) costs...£19,200, before the Uni's estimate of £14,100 for living costs, and I believe there is also a college fee of about £3000 to pay. Now excuse my hasty Mathematics, but this basically means to study a Masters there would cost me about £35,000. That's plainly a wee bit more than Student Finance would loan (about £11,000 last I looked), and far more than I assume most people have (or are willing to spend) from savings, so...do most people get scholarships? Only I have a friend accepted to a Cambridge Masters and he's certainly not in the habit of carrying around £35,000 in his back pocket.
Me if you're interested: 1st Class degree in Natural Sciences (not Cambridge), some work experience in copyediting/tutoring/marketing. No idea how competitive an applicant I would be, but at the moment the finance side seems to preclude the idea!
Thanks for any help.
