The wage was increased twice and totally increased by 32%. Calculate the percent of the first wage increase if the second time it increased, it was increased double the percent than the first time.

OK - let's do an example.

I start with £100

I increase by 5% so I have 100 x 105/100 = 105

The next increase is double, so 10%, 105 x 110/100 = £115.50 which is not a 32% increase.

Have a think about how to get the right answer

yeah but there’s an x since we don’t know the sum at the start, so should l just keep trying every combo or percents and then just get the right one?

You can use any letter - x can get confusing with multiplying.

You can use trial and improvement or algebra ...
