After half a term at my university I'm not sure it was the right choice for me, however dropping out and leaving the year unfinished isn't an option for me. If I finished this year would I be able to start afresh at a different university? If so what would the application process be like for this?

Yes. Student finance allows 1 gift year for when you make mistakes or have to do resits.

Your options are as follows:

1. Apply for unis now on the basis of A levels.- Just a fresh application , same as you did this year.
2. Apply closer to the end of the year on the basis of good results at current uni strengthening your app.
3. Finish year 1 and assuming its the same subject, then just apply for a uni transfer into Y2.

As you say fresh then its either 1 or 2.
