So basically I need some advice. To put things simply, I originally studied a business btec which I finished when I was 18, then I went on a gap year. However I now realise that I really don’t like business and don’t wanna spend 3 years studying it at uni. My gap year is over and I was meant to start uni this year but I withdrew my spot from the uni and am studying an access course for science this year instead hoping to get into biology at a Russel group uni. My question is, would the fact that I spent 2 years studying business at btec and only got mediocre gcse grades for biology (C) put admissions tutors off and get my application rejected? I really plan on studying very very hard on this access course.

If you are now doing a relevant Level 3 (ie. the Access to HE Course) then thats fine. The BTEC will be ignored.
Universities accept that people have changes of heart, and they welcome applications from older students.
Check the entry requirements carefully - if the required Access grades are not listed just email the Uni and ask.
For RG Unis you will need 30+ credits at Distinction and they may specify exact what balance of subject you need.

Do you have a particular career path in mind? After all, there are lots of routes you could go down, ranging from zoo management/animal care, field ecology, public engagement, marketing or lab-based research, and there's a corresponding diversity of degrees. Then speak directly to an AT at a couple of the unis you feel drawn to? That will give you a realistic idea of what might be required?
