I’m planning to apply for a joint honours in French (post a level) and German (ab initio) at uni. Do I need to specify that I’d be doing German ab initio when I apply to the course on UCAS? If so, where?

It depends on the university, some unis have course codes that you put onto the UCAS form (I think there's a box near the course code box) and some courses make you specify later. From memory, I thinkkkk Durham and Cambridge and possibly Exeter had course codes, but York didn't for me, but I might be wrong!
