Will it be hard to study a year abroad in a country like japan, South Korea, Hong Kong when you don’t speak their language? the benefit obviously will be that you might somewhat learn the language whilst you are there but what about the technical stuff like opening up a bank, setting up a phone contract, going around the country? does anyone have any experience with this

It depends where you're studying in those countries, but most people tend to speak really good English in those countries until you start trying to learn their language. Not sure what opening banks and setting up phone contracts are like, but I'm pretty sure you'll be able to do those things online nowadays, or just keep your account registered to the UK if you're only there for a year
