@Drewski Well I was hoping someone here would either know about how the medical examiners make these decisions or know where I can find this out. You know, before I put myself through a pretty lengthy application process.

As long as the actual acceptance of the application comes long before that, I'm fine waiting a year.

That's not how it works, no.

The bonus is due to expire soon anyway, and you'll be lucky if you can get through quickly enough to receive it.

What do you mean by 'waiting a year'? In the current climate, it could take a few weeks for your application to be reviewed and it will be accepted if you've met all the initial requirements. If it is, you'll then start the selection process. Are you basically ready for the AST, interview, fitness test?
Firstly, I'd just kindly reinforce that the guys on here who give out way more advice than me are very knowledgeable, and they're not just saying things to annoy you. It's definitely worth baring in mind that you never know who you're talking to on here....the RAF is a small community. But I do get it, the application and selection process can be frustrating. Mine was. It took well over a year from me sitting a p2 pres to signing on the dotted line.

It can take a long time. The speed you go through depends on you, the speed of your afco, and the speed of whatever part of the process your at. For example, if Capita medical services are busy, then they're busy and you may have to wait. As mentioned, no one on here can offer medical advice as we aren't qualified, and I do totally get your frustrations, but that's just the way it is.

I'm not saying you have to have had a dream of joining the forces forever, but it shouldn't be decided on a whim. I'm not saying that's the case for you, but it's a very big commitment, so you have to be sure.

All the best and hopefully this has helped a little bit

I meant waiting a year before actually being accepted, after going through the selection process. Honestly, I wouldn't mind just getting an idea of how long it takes from sending in my application to the final interview where they give you an offer. That's what I really want an idea of timewise. I don't mind waiting a while for going to Halton, as long as I know I've been accepted, you know?

I spoke to someone on the RAF website's live chat and they seemed to think that I'll get the bonus as long as I apply now? Not sure how accurate that is but that's what they said I'm fairly sure.

That's still going to take a while. Nobody can say exactly because everybody progresses through at different rates, but figure 9-10 months, certainly.

I know everyone's application time frame differs but i applied for the cyberspace role in February this year, i have had no delays due to medical or fitness but because of COVID and the back log after passing my fitness I've been given a BRTC date of Summer 2021.

Based on the RAF website it also states to get the joining bonus you would require to attest before 31st March 2021 https://www.raf.mod.uk/recruitment/media/3864/20200615-ccs_gh_info.pdf

What does attest mean in this case? From the moment I am accepted? I don't care too much about the bonus although it would be nice 🙂

Attestation is your formal swearing in, typically happens in the first few days of basic training, but basically means Day 1 of phase one training.

Read the threads on here about how the selection process, especially those from Adam the recruiter about the effect of coronavirus on current recruitment.

Where has this idea come from about waiting a year after going through selection? Under normal circumstances selection can take 3-9 months, there can be delays due to coronavirus, and you'll be given a Basic training date that assumes you'll get through and be available for the next course of specialist training. However, you won't be kept waiting months and months for Basic and If there is any kind of gap between those 2 courses you are in the RAF and will be employed somewhere.
