If doing A-level edX courses will help boost my uni application.

I want to study maths at uni and I have found some edX maths courses that are basically an outline of the A-level maths syllabus at school. I'm just wondering: if I complete these, does it help to boost my uni application even though they are A-level courses (if that makes sense)? It's a little hard putting this into words. XD

MOOC courses can vary quite a bit in terms of their quality. Some are very good indeed whereas others are terrible. Maths is a subject you just got to practice. There isn't any way around that.

I'd definitely consider doing the course and mentioning it on your CV/statement, but only pay for the certificate if you feel the course has merited it and you can afford to.

I will take a hunch that you are interested in maths in general. Here are two (free and legal) books which may help you now and in the future:
Richard Hammack - Book of Proof:

Stitz and Zeager - Precalculus:

You may also find Engineering Maths by Stroud useful but that one you'll have to pay for.
