Council taxes and am I screwed

Hello! So the thing is that I have started my studies last year in September, I was living with 4 students. In the second semester I drop out due to my finances, at the time I was living at my aunts house and I was helping her to pay council taxes. Due to my house contract, I was still paying the rent every month till July for this student house,but I did not emailed the council about changes of my circumstances, I did not realise that it is a fraud, because I was paying taxes in the different house if that makes sense. When I was at uni to fill the form, I’ve been told that the exemption lasts for one academic year, so that was the reason why I did not contact the council. I took 5 months break and then from this September I came back to a different uni and different course. So the question is, do I need to pay for these 5 months even when I was paying taxes at the different house?
