Is there a scale to measure like the number of lives improved ? My geography teacher said there was a way to measure something as qualitative as happiness, so I assume there is a scale to measure something as qualitative as this.

Engineers, nearly everything you see around you was designed by engineers/architects/designers etc.
Doctors would have a pretty hard time doing their job without engineers.

I feel like they both contribute a lot, but in different ways. You could argue that we wouldn't be able to function without either of them.

Engineers design most of what we see around us (as the person above said), but doctors keep us all healthy and alive. Pretty impossible choice.

Engineers contribution to society is very much underrated. When I worked in Italy I found they were addressed by their title and much more revered.

Engineers, I'm not an engineer but i work for a company which produces equipment that people in the NHS, armed forces etc rely on to stay safe. Without the army of workers beavering away behind the scenes, frontline workers wouldnt be able to do their jobs

Without engineers (or at least engineering) doctors would be of little more use than priests.
That doesn't devalue the worth of doctors though

Without an understanding of physics engineers would be useless.
Not really, we had engineers before we even thought about physics.
