AS: Science in Society (AQA)

Ha!

Has anyone heard of this?! I am pondering with the idea of doing this as a 1.5 hour 'lesson' a week after school so that I could get a 6th AS. Its sounds and looks so easy, a little pointless perhaps but fun. There is no prep and only 5 pages A4 on coursework max.

It sounds like a laugh so am going to do it, will not revise on it at all just sit the exam.

Has anyone else even heard of it? Are you doing it? What are your thoughts? :p:

Heys,
i am currently studyin SiS as an additionality, which means i have one, one hour lesson each week.
The course consists of 2 courseworks, which are admitidly a pain in the ass.
The first, a book report, is fine if u find an interesting topic to use. The second, a report is at this moment in time causing me annoyance. Its tedious and takes a lot of planning to help you get through it.
The course itself is not overly stressful, however it does help if u have some background knowledge of bology, chemistry and even GCSE history. Its also a big help if u have lecturer who's intertested in teaching it....which i do not.

There's some reasoning for you....hope i've helped

I have not taken it but it is the same as the old spec AQA AS Science for Public Understanding - The difference is that there is one exam where as I had 2. The coursework is easy. Write a book review and write a report on a topical scientific issue e.g. global warming/stem cell research/ drugs etc I only got a C at AS. I got an E on Unit 1 (The Biology Unit) a B on Unit 2 (The Physical Sciences) and an A on Unit 3 (coursework). I self taught this course and only did 1 days worth of work! The c/w is actually interesting providing you research something you enjoy.

A WORD OF WARNING:
The course is supposed to be about the history of science sort of. JUST LEARN THE FACTS! The exam only asks you Facts.

Good Luck - It isn't respected but who cares its an Easy AS! I may retake Unit 1 so I get a B

As you self-taught, I would just be interested to know how you got your coursework authenticated?

This subject is the vain of my life..
If I could go back in time I wouldn't do it. Our teachers don't even bother to help or support us and it's not really a respected subject.
I personally would advise anyone not to take this subject. But that's probably becuse I'm going to fail it.
However if you actually work it probably is an easy subject with the correct teaching methods and support
