Clinical Neurology MSc (2021-2022) - University of Sheffield

Is anybody starting this course next year? I have a lot of questions in regards to accom, finance and career prospects after the course. I would love to know where to live, how much (as I will be on a tight budget), how people are funding themselves and what career they are hoping to go in to! Thanks! 😊

Hi, I am a Psychology Graduate with a 2:1. I graduated in 2015 and travelled a bit so I’m now looking to do my masters in Clinical Neurology in Sheffield however I am very unsure as I will have to save a LOT as I will be supporting and funding this myself. I just wanted more info about the types of jobs people have went in to using this course. I understand half the students will also have a medical degree which scares me quite a bit as I’ll have been out of uni for 6 years!

I would yes, however I understand I need to complete doctoral training in Clínical Psychology and then specialise. It’s a long road! I want to work in the field of neurorehabilitation in the NHS and I don’t know whether a masters would be required for that? But I’m fascinated with neurology and neuropsychology.
Are you set on this course? If you're interested in clinical neuropsychology, I would recommend the MSc in Applied Neuropsychology at the University of Bristol. I've just finished this course and I'm now working in neurorehabilitation as an Assistant Psychologist.

Also thank you for your response, this would be perfect for me! However I’m slightly apprehensive about moving to Bristol as I’m from Liverpool so it’s quite a while away and I would be supporting myself. May I ask how you funded this and how you covered the costs? Did you have a job whilst completing this? Did you enjoy the course?
It's not something that I know a huge amount about, but if you want to become a clinical neuropsychologist, the route is (from here):

1. Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC). This is achieved by completing a Society accredited degree or an accredited conversion course.
2. Accredited postgraduate training programme that gives eligibility for membership as a Chartered Psychologist through the Clinical or Educational training route.
3. The Society's Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN). Those that have completed accredited postgraduate training in Clinical Neuropsychology will be eligible for exemption from part of the Society's Practitioner Full Membership Qualification.

You would probably be better off doing the doctorate first, as that is competitive enough and to become a neuropsychologist is even rarer.

And unfortunately it looks like the course at Sheffield wouldn't help to shorten the process for you, as according to the list of accredited courses, only Glasgow, UCL and Bristol are (see here and change the search parameters for post-grad neuropsychology)

Hi, I was planning to start this course at the University of Bristol in September. Could you perhaps let me know about the job prospects, as in how difficult is it to get a job after completing this course?
