Feminax question

Has anyone ever known Feminax to mess up someone's period? I had a headache about a week ago so I took one for the first time, and since then my period, which I thought last week was on its way, was just spotting on and off for a few days, and only started properly yesterday. Now I have a bad stomach cramp and want to take another but I'm a bit wary of them now - is it possible for them to have this kind of effect or am I just over-thinking things?
Feminax is just a special type of painkiller for women is it not? (Correct me if I'm wrong) So it shouldn't mess with your cycle! Bit weird. Have you had unprotected sex recently?
Feminax is just a paracetamol/codeine mix. It shouldn't bare any effect whatsoever on your periods.

The only thing you should take care with is that you eat lots of fibre if you're taking lots of Feminax as codeine will give you constipation if you're not eating properly!

Feminax (as said above) is just painkillers. Men can take it too, they just aim the brand at women to have a specific market. It does not do anything specifically for women or period pains!

It might be you've just had a funny period, have you been stressed in the past month? I often find mine are a bit iffy after I've been stressed or ill. If next month you still have the same problem, go to the doctor just incase but I reckon you'll be fine. Hormones are funny things.

Like everyone else has said, feminax is just a strong painkiller designed to target stomach cramps for period pain, it doesn't actually have anything to do with hormones that could affect your period.
You might just be having an 'off' period- sometimes they mess up for no apparent reason, or sometimes because of diet, stress, taking a pill later than usual etc etc. There are countless of reasons as to why it could have happened but it's usually never anything to worry about.
I get that sometimes- when I just have stomach cramps with no bleeding, then period starts a few days after that, and then bleeds on and off which is confusing but I've just learnt to not trust my cycle :p: . Don't worry about it OP, Feminax won't have had that effect, and as I said, you're probably just having an off month

Thanks for your replies, it seems I'm just having a funny month. But, for one scary looking pill, the Feminax didn't really work for me, bah! Never mind.

They don't work for me either. Nothing seems to work on me anymore. I even went to the doctor who prescribed me with painkillers (usually used for rhumatiod arthritis) and they only just about ease the pain. If it wasn't for them, I'd pass out from it as they're so bad. I've lost count how many times I've collapsed!
If no other painkillers work for you OP, then I'd suggest asking your GP to prescribe you with stronger painkillers as it does really help and the only medicines that seem to do the trick (for me anyway) are those from the doc.

my GP eventually put me on the pill, cos i had used absolutely everything possible to numb the pain, stopping short of morphine :p:
Feminax is my absolute life saver. During my english alevel I unexpectedly came on with no pills on me and half way through the exam I ended up passing out so I had to leave it, thankfully the staff noticed me dying in my chair and wrote to the exam board explaining. If I don't have any feminax on me I have to take about 4 paracetamol and end up forcing myself to sleep as the pain is agonising!

Gawd, that sounds extremely painful - hope all is well now though.

Feminax Ultra contains Naproxen which is a very potent pain killer. Alot better than the Co-Codamol in the normal Feminax. Naproxen was a POM medication but has now be reclassified as a P line.
As some people have said above, Feminax is just paracetamol and codeine (co-codamol). If this works for you do yourself a favour a try an own brand (Boots or Superdrug) co-codamol - it's far cheaper!!

I used to use Feminax all the time as it used to also contain an anti-spasmodic (hyoscine) which is the main thing that will relieve cramps and severe pain (trust me, I know - I ended up in hospital because of it at one point - the docs thought it was a urine infection, sent me home with drugs that made me sick, then discovered it was in fact 'just' period pain). Feminax then stopped working for me and I discovered they'd removed the magic ingredient. Fortunately there is a solution...

If you are really at your wits end with period pain, try using co-codamol, alongside Buscopan IBS Relief. Buscopan is an anti-spasmodic and the co-codamol is the pain relief. Together they work wonders. I have been using them for about 2 years now - it is perfectly safe to take them together (I checked with my pharmacist first) and as long as I take them I'm fine and can get on with life as normal. If I don't take them, you can bet that I'll be doubled up in pain unable to do anything!

Agreed! This is exactly what I do. I found out that one ingredient had been taken out of Feminax- which stopped it working for me. So then tried Buscopan and it worked wonders together with ibuprofen (or co-codomol).
But lately.. for some reason, every pain killer under the sun has stopped working for me now :frown: And am going to have a hystoroscopy (sorry about the awful spelling, but it's late night!) to find out if there's an under lying problem for the pain (which I've collapsed from, passed out, been admitted to hospital, you name it..)
Anyway, definately try out Buscopan (ignore that it's for IBS and don't let it put you off getting it :p: ) it stops those horrible spasms that you get when you're on your period, which is great especially when working together with another painkiller. Hope you find something that works for you.
How long does fenimax ultra take to have an effect, it's my first time trying it and it doesn't seem to have made a difference yet
