banned from a shop- how risky would it be to go in anyway?

appologies if I could post anonymously in general discussion

Im banned from h&m in all european stores- but I cant see how they could possibly find out I went in in another city (in another bundesland of germany) or another country- or why they would bother to check this sort of thing.

Do people think it would be too risky to go into h&m occasionally and buy things with cash (bc they could trace me with a credit card)?

(explanation):

Please dont just comment telling me how stupid I am for getting myself into this situation- I realised that on my own

basically, I was in h&m in berlin and I walked out of the stop holding pair of earings that id been carrying around- I honest to god meant to pay for it and it was an honest mistake- I though the security guard would realise that hence why I sort of laughed of my stupidity when she stopped me- I of course appologised and offered to pay for it all straight away- but unfortunately she was really angry- I had to go to her office and she wrote down my name and details!! she told me because of this incident I am banned from all european h&m stores for 2 years!!

presumably because there was only 1 cheap item and I was fully co-operative, they said nothing would happen as long as it didnt happen again. the police were called and escorted me out of the shop- they said I would get post- although it wasnt clear where they would send it (i didnt have a fixed address in germany, they noted down my parents address in britain). As far as I know I havent received any post- and presumably if there was some fine the police would have tried to contact me to make me pay for it. in any case- this whole traumatic event seems to be over- I just have to be more careful

also- I would have thought ive I am banned from a shop they would send me a written explanation of what exactly that means and what would happen if I breach it??

help would be much appreciated :s-smilie:

If they have a photo it could be too risky to go into a shop at all, some shops now use image comparing software on their CCTV
As long as you pay with cash and it's not in a store anywhere near berlin you theoretically should be fine, they won't have wanted posters of you behind the counter for a pair of earrings! Though they might have face recognition stuff on their cctv so it might be a bit risky...

Just don't be suspicious and maybe try to avoid it :p: How long have you been banned for so far? If they do kick up a fuss, just get someone else to buy stuff for you
its a bit of overkill on their part if you get recognised in another country!

God, that's ridiculous.

I'd appeal against it if I were you. When did it happen?

Or shop online?
Hmm. I don't get how all stores could know on sight EVERY person banned in ANY store. I reckon you'd be alright, to be honest. And if they say anything, deny all knowledge and say you're someone else...

Simple.
If I were you I'd be so p*****ed of at them for acting so over dramatically and treating me so badly I wouldn't want to go back in and shop there anyway!

But if you must, I seriously doubt they'd recognise you if you walked into a H and M in, I don't know, Exeter or something! If they did then just maybe you are top of the Deutsch most wanted list.
I'm banned too, or was, not sure when it ran out. But I just waited a week and then went back. They don't notice

You're joking? How would they know if you went into another H&M? Just go in.

chances of you getting recognised in another country paying in cash are almost non-existent. the fact that you've also recieved no written confirmation makes me sceptical as to whether the whole "banned from all european h&m stores" is genuine. i think you're probably just banned from the one specific store, if that.

They probably just said it as some sort of scare tactic and to make you feel punished. I very much doubt that have informed every branch in Europe that there is an earring thief on the loose and so to keep a look out. Im sure you will be fine.

Just don't use a debit/credit card - I doubt they'd notice unless you used a card registered to a banned person.

loool.. what are you worried is going to happen anyway? Get arrested and go to jail? Just go, nothing's going to happen. Although I agree that if they did that to me, I wouldn't give them my money and shop elsewhere tbh

How will they know then? All the shops I've worked for, unless you directly look at the card, you don't get a name come up anywhere on the screen or anything.

Because it has your name on the front, cash doesn't. I don't know how things may work in shops, but it just strikes me that someone is unlikely to be removed from the premises just because they look like someone who has been banned, but might if their name matches that of someone who has been banned.

Hahaah this is quite funny. Okay first of all:

1) No they can't stop you going into any H & M stores in Europe. How could they? Unless they have facial recognition CCTV tied into a huge pan-european database I don't see how they could implement it

2) I asked my friend who is a bobby and he said it's mainly to deter shop lifters and the bans are enforced by the local security guards rather than anybody else. It is not a crime to walk in there ie. It's not a legally enforceable rule unless it's handed down as part of an ASBO or ABC by a magistrate.

3) Don't worry about it...
