personal statements / UCAS application

Hi! Im currently in yr 12, and im beliving to study optometry at Aston uni.
i have a few questions.
When do i start writing my personal statement?
When do i start revising for BMAT/ UCAT and which one do i do and when do i do that?
SInce covid, its hard to do work experience at a hospital or vision express or do volunteering at a charity. What should i do to add to my personal statement as work experience is very important?
When should i start work experience and when do you normally start it?
Any ideas of extrawcurricular activities relevant to what i want to study?
Any ideas on what i can add to boost my personal statement?

Thank you so much i appreciate it

Hi,

I’m in year 13 and have submitted my UCAS so hopefully can help!

I wouldn’t worry too much about starting your personal statement for a while yet but it’s good to be thinking about what you can include. Instead of work experience, maybe consider some online courses (MOOCS are good,I think they’re on EDX) and wider reading is always good. See if there are some books and online lectures on YouTube as well as TedTalk stuff.

Super curriculars are good, they’re bits like the wider reading I mentioned where you go beyond your school curriculum.

Good luck with all of this, you’re already thinking ahead so will be able to gradually amass loads of discussion points and be able to pick the very best ones!

Hope this helps!
