Gap year AFTER first year uni + Ideas!

Hi all,

So ive done my first year at uni. Been doing economics, not really got my heart set on it. I kind of want to take a year out and figure things out, im kind of unfocused, have been ever since alevels, got into uni by partly luck and though uni is somewhat fun, the subject is not what i really want (i think). I feel I need to just get away from education and think! However, paradoxical that might sound! Anybody else feel/felt like this? Done this?

Would really appreciate any help!

Ps- another important question would be, is it too late to plan a gap year? I havent got a job, never worked ever so got no experience, and i havent planned anything. Ive given out CVs but no reply yet. I think it may make a difference if i apply full time though, as previously I applied part time as i thought i would be going to uni. Anybody for good gap year plans and job ideas for good money? Im thinking i can get some money for travelling for a couple months next year before i go back. Also... maybe i should get work experience in a bank. Anybody done this?

Sorry this is so jumbly and confused, but its because I am! Thanks for any help. Peace.
Hey I am sort of in the same boat, I got into uni with luck and after first year didnt really like the subject so I am planning a gap year like you.

I have been trying for jobs too then maybe travel in the spring. I have to do my ucas application for next year too!

Its never too late for a gap year! How old are you?

Hey im 19. ok just looked at your profile.. you're 19 too. what were you doing/what do you plan to apply for now?
The degree I applied for in 2007 was computer science related and I did horribly in it and wasnt rather fond of it either

Now I am looking towards an journalism or arts degree.

But until then I will work and save money for that so I dont have to take out much of a loan.

I am from se london

Thats cool. Honestly its in my nature to do something arts related, but im not bad at the sciences/maths and i dont hate it... but economics..idk I loved english lit and love writing, but didnt think it was a good idea to do it at uni. But i wasnt really thinking at all when i went into uni, not really. But anyways, let me know if you have any bright ideas! Especially job opportunities. Do you know where you want to go travelling?
Yeah I am looking into christmas temp jobs atm ALOT of shops are looking for guys like that and I will probably travel in the spring to new york or somewhere in usa as its MUCH cheaper in the spring

Alot of younger girls go into year long trips and volunteer for things (not my thing though)

What are you looking to do?

I will look into the volunteering things. Some of it is interesting. PLus its cheap so it helps. I would like to go travelling in Asia or SAmerica though.
What course are you looking at in 09?

im not planning on applying. Im going to defer, take a year out and either continue my course next year or ask to change next year at the same uni.
i know this thread is pretty old but I am in the same situation. The problem I have is that I have already signed a contract for a house near my uni but don't know if I could afford to live there even if i got a full time job. Also, if i start another course next year, my fees will probably go up!! helllpp haha what did you both end up doing?
