Just doing a poll of people I'm one of those people who have yet to pay the fee and I received a
letter saying they will take it from salary. I'm just interested

(a) Has anyone had the money taken from salary yet
(b) Has anyone received the £33 that we are to receive in the pay packets to cover the fee

Thanks

Given with one hand and taken with the other, and I'm 75p poorer as a result. As well, my HT (whose
word I do NOT trust under any circumstances, but have no reason to disbelieve her on this issue)
said that the GTC fee payment into our checks comes out of the school funds.

Yep, both, and that despite me not filling in any of the forms telling them who I am!

Jason

ps: I thought that debtors of any sort had to get a liability order through the courts before they
could directly take money from a salary. Have any of the Unions challenged this yet?

User 1951, the GTCE has a new Chairman from Sept who is a practicing classroom teacher, NOT
appointed by Blair. There is a majority teacher representation on GTCE. Why do English Teachers get
so het up about this? Scotland have had their GTC for decades!!

We were wondering at work just how much money had been spent in administering the whole thing. Like
putting £33 onto our wage, and then deducting £23, from source, before we even got to the money.

Neither was mine. I am still extremely angry that a body I do not support is allowed to steal money
from my pay cheque without my consent. It is irrelevant whether the money is refunded or whatever
else, the simple fact is that my salary can be accessed without permission.

I must have missed the vote for that one. How very remiss of me.

The GTC is stuffed full of Tony's cronies and does not represent teachers. It's taxation without
representation - is there some harbour we could dump tea into or something?

When I spoke to the LEA's accounting department, a law that went into effect last year giving LEAs
the right to take the money was quoted at me. Likely this law was buried underneath other news, or
else, hopefully, the unions would have made some sort of noise about it.

I still find it amazing, sorry, but I really do, that you cannot do a blessed thing about your
lawmakers who do this sort of thing - no recall elections, nothing. You can't even wait for the next
election because they're not on a schedule - you have to wait for the government to "give up" before
taking action - and that could be years and years. How can this country call itself a democracy??? I
really want to know - not as a critical thing - I *really* want to understand this.

I'm really curious - not spouting off, but *truly* curious as to what action the people here can
take to protect their own freedoms....

If you ask me, I believe the unions have been supportive of New Labour, without realising that
they're the same, or worse, than the old Conservatives. A few all-out strikes should teach
them a lesson!
