Physics

I have currently started year 12 and am studying physics, maths, chemistry and politics. I am working towards studying physics at Cambridge (natural sciences degree) however i have seen many people that take further maths and was wondering whether this would have an effect on me getting into Cambridge because i dont take further maths a level?

I am in year 12 and I was in the exact same position as you. I was taking maths, physics and computer science. After looking at entry requirements, I saw that further maths was much more useful then computer science so I changed. I only changed about 2 weeks and have just finished catching up today. It’s not too late to change to further maths. To help with catching up if you do choose to take further maths, tlmaths on YouTube is great and explains content very well.

My daughter studies physics with particle physics first year. She took phys, chem, FM, and maths alevel. She said there are people who have not done the FM alevel at her uni, and some that have. She said also that first term her FM has helped her because of some of the maths elements in the modules is FM based.
This is her handbook https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/media/lancaster-university/content-assets/documents/physics/info/hand1920-UG.pdf
Physics module PHYS111, PHYS112, PHYS113, PHYS114, PHYS115, PHYS 131 are your more mathsy modules and the basics to get to the next stages of physics. First year at most unis are pretty similar set up we have seen where its all core based, and then branch out into more specialised where you can choose your modules in year 2 and beyond.

Thank you so much for this but I think it’s a bit late for me to switch subjects as we are so far into the year. I was hoping to take as further maths next year but I’m not sure if that is possible. Thank you though!!
