Hii, I've applied for Social Policy at Bristol, Leeds, Bath and York and I can't find much info/discussion about the degree. Wanted to make this if anyone got any offers so far or just wanted to talk about the course/Unis ect because no ones every heard of the course aha:smile: (I applied for 2 separate courses at Bristol: social policy and social policy + politics)

Hi,

I am a current final year Sociology student at the University of Bath. If you would like more information about Social Policy at Bath, please check out the webpage here.

Although I study Sociology, the Social Policy course is quite similar and I have taken units in Social Policy such as Social Policy, Welfare and the State, Social Problems and Social Policy and Criminal Justice Policy all of which I really enjoyed and found super interesting. I particularly enjoyed the application to current policy, having the opportunity to write my own policy briefs and guest lecturers from the Civil Service and think tanks talking about their role in policy making.

If you would like to ask any more questions about this course or life at Bath in general, I would be happy to answer.

Hi,

I would really recommend a placement year, Bath places a big emphasis on doing a placement year and gaining professional work experience, which is one of the reasons I chose Bath. The University has lots of great links with reputable employers. I personally did a placement year in London at a Market Research agency and found it really valuable for developing my employability skills and improving my confidence in a professional environment.

Previous Social Policy students have completed placements in lots of different areas such as the Home Office, House of Commons, various different Government departments and the National Crime Agency. If you click this link here it will take you to the webpage for placements in the Humanities and Social Sciences department, where you can access more information.

I'm almost certainly going to firm the Social Policy, Politics, and Economics course(weird version of PPE the social policy department run) at Birmingham.

Hey! 👋 I ended up firming York for Social Policy. It's difficult to find much info on it; I'd really like to hear a student's experience with the course but I can't find anything on YouTube and there's barely anything on the web

Mind if I ask how you managed to find a social policy group chat? I'm in a couple of FB groups for freshers but no luck yet 😭

I did the same, I joined groups for 2021 offer holders and posted what course I was doing and then found a few people and we made a gc. Have you tried searching ‘social policy’ within individual FB groups so you can find people who have already posted/discussed it? 😁

Hiii! It's great to find someone else who's firmed York 😄 I was given a contextual offer so hopefully I'll see you around! Did you get an invite last week to the online visit day? The social policy videos went over what the course would be like, but I wasn't able to talk to any current students unfortunately
