Is Salicylic acid (2-hydroxybenzoic acid) a phenol? I'm not too sure because there's an '-OH' attached to the benzene and also a carboxylic group attached to the benzene.

Thanks

Have you tried googling it up? Only thing I know about Salicylic acid is that it is used to treat verrucas haha.

Yep, but I'm still unsure about the answer, it doesn't seem like I can find a hard yes or no?

It mentions it being a 'phenolic phytohormone' on wikipedia but I don't understand the stuff linking to it.

It is a phenol. Phenolic is just an adjective form of Phenol.

It's a phenolic acid not a phenol, because it has a carboxylic acid group attached to the phenol ring. Phenol is a separate thing; it's a benzene with an -OH as you said. I think you would say it has a phenol functional group but is not phenol itself.
