is there a difference between applying to a normal course or applying to one with a year in industry, like will it make me less likely to get a place or?????

No - its just another optional extra like Study Abroad. The admissions process will be the same.

Industrial placements are worth doing - it gets you over the issue of being a freshly minted graduate but with no relevant work experience, you get a solid work orientated reference, and you earn ££ in the middle of your degree.
