I can't quite believe I've just written that, but if that isn't what you're confused about you definitely need to try and explain exactly *what* you think is x^{-2}.

No u do you know how to do implicit differentiation? Because that’s how you can get the derivative of arctan

The question was d/dx ( arctan(x/2) )

I get it now though, because it was meant to be 1/2 then if you times it by 4 , you get the top simplified as 2*
