physics a level waves question

you know how you put masses on the end of the string for tension, and the no. of masses is = t tension in the string. but i thought the WEIGHT would be resposnible for the tension, right?
i hope that makes sense xxx

Tension = Weight, if weight component and tension component are perpendicular and there is no horizontal weight component. And, also no external force acting on the system.
Mass is not responsible for tension. Weight is what matters.
