Hey so i was wondering why is such high levels of gas released from composite volcanoes but not shield volcanoes?

Apologies if I'm wrong but this is my understanding:

Composite volcanoes tend to release more viscous lava - either andesitic or rhyolitic - which, because of how thick it is, contains more gases that then get released when the volcano erupts. However, shield volcanoes have much thinner, basaltic lava. Because of how thin and runny it is, it doesn't contain as much gas.
