Could do with a chat with a product designer

Hi, I am currently a third year student studying product design and am working on two main projects at the moment, one to design a speaker relating to an emotion and the other to redesign an ironing system, now the speaker design I am having few problems with but I am struggling to visualise it on SolidWorks.

as well with the iron and board I am struggling to visualise the complexity of each component, I have put off these projects for so long and have done a few basic components for the iron, I have tried doing a lot of research into the products (I took apart a whole iron) but I can't seem to get my head around the complexities of each component.

Is there any product designers/students who have done this level of project before where I am able to ask a few questions about how to go about this process? I am not asking for help with these specific projects its more of a general how do you go about a complex project without it getting the better of you and confusing you a little.
