Hi,

1. On the website it says that the bmat section 1 and section 2 sum is different for those who are flagged for contextual data.

I would like to ask how much different is it? Last year’s standard cutoffs were 3.5 minimum in both section 1 and section 2, with a minimum sum of 8.5 in those two sections. Would you be able to tell me what were the cutoffs for the contextual applicants please? On the website it doesn’t specify.

2. How do we know if we meet the contextual criteria? I don’t seem to find it.

3. Are we supposed to receive a form about contextual data?

Your help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi could you please state your cut off scores for this application cycle?
If you do not have it could you please state your cut off scores for each year prior to this.
How does being on the pathways to medicine scheme affect your application?
Thanks,

Hello there,

thank you very much for your question!

Of course you can apply! We accept applications from Overseas students, but you will still need to apply through UCAS to our Undergraduate MBBS programme. You can find more information here: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/study/ug/courses/school-of-medicine/medicine/#entry-requirements

Have a wonderful weekend,

Does Imperial operate a band system for interviews and do they give interview in batches?

Hello there,

This year, the interviews will be in the form of a-synchronous (pre-recorded) Multiple Mini Interviews. We have created a bespoke page on MMIs this year and you can find all the information about them here, including the marking system: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/study/undergraduate/medicine-mbbs-programmes/MMI2021/

Interviews will all happen in January, and we will offer our candidates the opportunity of selecting their preferred interview slot.

I hope this helps!

Best wishes,
Lidia

how do Imperial use the BMAT results?

Hello @F1Fanatic16,

Thank you for your question.

All candidates applying to Medicine must take the BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) in the year of application in order to be considered for interview at Imperial. So, we take the BMAT test pretty seriously, as it's one of our shortlisting factors.

Invitations to an interview will be based on:

-the content of your UCAS application
-your performance in all three sections of BMAT

You can find more information here: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/study/ug/courses/school-of-medicine/medicine/#entry-requirements

Good luck with your application!

Best wishes,
Lidia

Hello @Bilaaaal,

thank you for your message.

You can find the information you requested about BMAT cut-offs here: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/study/ug/courses/school-of-medicine/medicine/#entry-requirements. If you look at the BMAT paragraph, it reads: “A contextualised adjustment was made to the sum of scores of Section 1 and Section 2 for candidates identified with the College’s widening participation flag. The adjustment reflected the overall difference in performance between flagged and non-flagged candidates.”

As for contextual data, here you have all the information about data and how it is considered: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/study/ug/apply/selection/admissions-schemes/contextual-data/

I hope this is clear!

Have a fantastic weekend,
Lidia

Hello there,

thank you very much for your questions.

You can find the about BMAT cut-offs here: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/study/ug/...y-requirements.

BMAT cut-off scores are calculated each year, as a result of ranked candidate BMAT scores versus number of expected interview sessions. As a result, the absolute BMAT cut-off changes each year. However, the BMAT cut-off scores from previous admissions cycles may be used as a guide.

In 2019, the minimum requirements for interview included a minimum score in each of the BMAT sections 1, 2 and 3 and a minimum sum of scores across sections 1 and 2.

For Home/EU candidates: Candidates were required to score a minimum of 3.5 in Section 1 and Section 2, with the sum of scores in these two Sections being at least 8.6. They were required to score a minimum of 2.5C in Section 3.

For OS candidates: Candidates were required to score a minimum of 4.0 in Section 1 and Section 2, with the sum of scores in these two Sections being at least 10.0 They were required to score a minimum of 3C in Section 3.

A contextualised adjustment was made to the sum of scores of Section 1 and Section 2 for candidates identified with the College’s widening participation flag. The adjustment reflected the overall difference in performance between flagged and non-flagged candidates.

Good luck with your application!

Best wishes,
Lidia

Are applicants ranked by their BMAT score in Bands. E.g. Band 1, Band 2, Band 3? Or has this practise ended?

Dear Lidia,
My name is Shaun Bernadet. I just recieved my BMAT results. I got 6.8 and 6.3 in sections 1 and 2, but only got 3A in section 3. I am predicted 4 A* grades at A-level and have received an A* for an accelerated Maths A-level. What are my chances of getting an offer from Imperial?

Hello @Vetrix42,

Thank you for your question.

We do not use bands. All students need to meet the cut off we set for a combined score between Section 1 and Section 2. You can find more information here: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/study/ug/courses/school-of-medicine/medicine/#entry-requirements

Good luck with your application!

Best wishes,
Lidia
