recently i've been considering going to chelsea next year because their fine art course has no pathways and is not limited to any one art discipline. there some things about the place that i don't like (such as the fact that it's in a very touristy part of london, and the lack of printmaking facilities) but i think it might be the best course for me. is there anyone here who has gone through the chelsea fine art course who wants to share their experiences?

the other place i really want to go is camberwell, and their fine art course is split into painting, sculpture, photography etc. so while i love the location and the vibe of camberwell, i'm not sure if it would be the best for me creatively, since i don't want to have to specialise and pick one discipline to study for three years. if any camberwell students want to also speak about their experiences on the painting course there, i would greatly appreciate that too

Hello thenightseer.

You're right that Chelsea doesn't do specialisms on their Fine Art course, and remember that Chelsea also teaches Graphic Design so they may have more print facilities than you think. The area itself is slightly touristy mainly because of Tate Britain, but I won't say it has more tourists in the area compared to our more central colleges such as CSM, LCC or LCF.

For Camberwell, although you do select one specialism that's right, it doesn't actually limit you from still partaking in the other mediums and workshops. So for example if you were doing Fine Art Painting, you can still do sculpture, or photography, or moving image etc.. Think of it more of a focus, rather than a limitation.

There is nothing wrong with applying for both and making your decision later of which one you would prefer!

All the best,
Mike
