Why would my ex still talk to me

So my ex and i broke up about 2 months ago now. It was a long time coming, i fell out of love/not attracted anymore, lots of problems. We didn't treat each other well i had lots of issues and was not nice to him sometimes.
He has got in touch saying he misses me, although neither of us want to get back together. He doesn't make it romantic but wants to talk. However he still has a negative image of me as mean or problematic due to our arguments and if he hates me why does he talk to me now?
i don't stay friends with exes but he doesn't see a problem even tho his exes in the past suffered a lot with the toxic way he stayed in touch when they hadn't moved on and he started seeing other people. There was even a tragic ending with one person.

He talks to you because you haven't blocked him. If you don't want contact from him, sort out your phone and social media.
