How many units a week?

My Dad has been drinking like 20 units in two days, or more. Is this a lot and does it count as alcoholism if it’s been going on for a while?

By all official recommended amounts 20 units is high. And if they drink 10 units every day this probably is an issue.

But by real world standards its not unusual for Brits, this is like 6/7 pints.
Honestly out of lockdown millions of people drink this much every weekend.

The NHS recommends up to 14 units a week.

Ok thanks. He drink beer but I think he gets most of the units from whiskey and bourbon. He normally has a few glasses a night.

Yep whiskey will do that, it’s really about balance. Drinking whiskey every night will effect the liver for sure. But it’s hard to say off what you have put if it’s just enjoying a drink or if it’s too much.
