Hi CozyBrodie,

It is possible for students to gain places on our degree courses without having done a foundation, but for something like fashion, students would need to have an exceptionally strong application and portfolio. Some students without Foundation may also have undertaken extracurricular study to develop their portfolios. We would advise you to apply for both the Foundation course and degree courses in January, so that if you don't get into the degree yet, you can apply again while on a foundation course. If you do the Foundation course at UAL, then you will get a guaranteed offer of a place on a degree course within your subject specialism.

If you are considering applying to our foundation courses, please be aware you can only choose one of our two. Our foundation courses have different specialisms, so you would probably look at CSM for the Fashion Textiles specialism. For foundation at UAL, you will also need a portfolio and a strong application as they are also competitive.

Best wishes,
Sian

Hi CozyBrodie

This can vary from year to year, and as we have numerous fashion courses, we can't give you a specific number. There's no extra cost in making an application to Foundation, and you can use the same portfolio for both, so its worth considering. For Foundation you can also write a personal statement specific to that course as you will be applying directly to us, rather than through UCAS (where your personal statement applies to all the courses you are applying to).
