Yeah I've asked many people at school and they didn't know how to do it as well. I just don't understand what they did to get 60 and then for some reason takeaway 10 to get 50.

Simply consider the first vehicle
990 = triangle + rectangle
The initial triangle is 30s long and the rectangle is t-30.
Then subtract 10 to get the motorcycle.

It is just area of a trapezium which is equal to 990 m.

look at the car only and see when it has gone 990 distance - use a trapezium again. Then take off 10s to adjust for the motorcycle being 10s behind the car.

Ok so why is the time t - 30. And why do you need to subtract 10 to get the motorcyle, I thought the motorcycle had a 10 second delay so you add it on?

A delay is 10 sec less
The triangle is 22*30/2
The rectangle is 22*(t-30)

Oh ok I understand the delay part now but still. If the length of the rectangle starts from 30 and ends at 30 + t isn't the difference just t so the length is just t?

You don't know what t is. You're solving for it. So it's t-30 long.

Oh so your saying T is the time at that end of the rectangle and to find the length we takeaway 30 because we don't know what t is. I think I understand it now thanks to you. I appreciate the help!
