Popular Music Performance

Hi. I am an international student. I have offers from Chester, Leeds Arts University, Liverpool and expecting from Newcastle. My applications in a couple of conservatoires are also in progress. Assuming that the conservatoires will be tough to get into, which one of these would you recommend from a Popular Music Performance perspective. The courses in Chester and LAU are Popular Music performance ones, while Liverpool and Newcastle are general Popular & Contemporary Music ones which I guess will have a higher focus on academic study of music.

Hello @akumar2003

I have spoken to Ruth Dockwray, the Programme Leader of our Popular Music Performance programme, and she has asked me to pass on the following message to you:

"The Popular Music Performance course at Chester is centred around performance, with the practical element as the most important focus. There are academic modules, such as Introduction to Popular Music Studies, where you would be expected to produce an essay and presentation, however, there are lots of option modules where you can choose more practical-focussed areas, such as songwriting and music technology. If you wish, you can choose a more academic route and do a dissertation. We deliver both a high quality of academic and practical based modules, with the course enabling you to choose modules that suit your interests and future goals."

I hope this helps in your decision making. If you have any further questions then Ruth has said she's happy to chat over email or via video call.
