I'm trying to make a little extra money on the side and thought I could get into buying things in bulk and then reselling them on eBay. I've got some ideas but wanted to hear if anyone else has any good ideas too. Thanks!

I'd be careful where I would wholesale from and with what products.
I've looked into wholesaling and selling on Amazon, but I think the margins are somewhat similar for UK wholesalers (wholesaling from abroad wouldn't be recommended for the time being). You can be looking at high product cost and relatively thin margins.
Even if your storage costs are neglible, you will still need to look at marketing costs and then eBay commissions/fees. If you do manage to scale it up, you will be subject to VAT.

It is possible to make money this way. I sell now on eBay and can make some fairly good money, but I spend time even now researching items. Do a bit of research, completed sales on eBay (never work from current listings, only completed) will show you the sort of prices achieved, from that work backward, factor in fees, postage, etc. And don't forget about a percentage for returns and losses, then also factor in tax and NI. Also, it has to be noted that today it is easier to regulate your shipping process. I work with https://thefbaprep.com/FBA-Prep-Center. They help to prepare the shipment, including inspecting, labelling, and packing it in suitable packaging and ship it according to the shipping plan.
