Cardio works on the cardio vasc system. If you want muscles then do resistance.

Resistance training, cardio won't cause any hypertrophy.

When I last went through a fitness thing, I went for a 2ish mile run every day, did some basic dumbbell weights, the usual pullups, pressups, situps etc.. and cut out all **** in my diet. The run did more for me than all the other stuff in terms of weight loss. A good friend of mine keeps himself toned up with baseball training (this article https://sportsandoutdoors.reviews/bl...seball-player/ is pretty interesting). Everyone thinks he is regular gym attendant

If you can, run (jog). Where I live at the moment it's all tarmac/concrete, which I'm finding is raping my knees, so I'm going to have to switch to swimming (and I'm a poor swimmer) or join a gym.

Getting toned has 2 components- building muscle then reducing body fat so you can see the muscle definition. Cardio isn't likely to build much muscle. Cardio is best for shedding body fat, resistance work (using your bodyweight or actual weights) will build muscle. If you just lose body fat without any muscle you won't look toned.
