It takes away their independence and luxuries, less contact with the outside world and their family and friends, isolation could lead to reflection, some prisons has programmes that educate the prisoners etc, I’m sorry if these answers are naff. Good luck with revision!

This makes the criminal realise how he has abused his rights and how it feels like to live without freedom. This makes public fear committing crimes so lower crime rates. The criminal is less likely to recommit crimes as he fears the consequence. Prison makes public feel safer as they are not threatened.
