Physics apprenticeships

I really want to get a job that involves physics. Engineering and Astronomy are my favourites but I'm not sure. I know that there are so many different areas in engineering but what about astrophysics? What kind of apprenticeships can you get in these areas? (Particularly astrophysics). Originally the plan was to go to uni and get a degree then go from there but apprenticeships seem so much more fun and I feel as though they would suit me more
