What does Pentan-1-ol form when dehydrated with sulphuric acid?

I've been trying to figure this out for a while!

I think it forms pent- 1- ene but not sure.

If pent-1-ene is formed then what is formed when pent-1-ene combines with hydrogen?

Yes, you are right, the dehydration of pentan-1-ol will form pent-1-ene.

If pent-1-ene is reacted with hydrogen gas (in the presence of a nickel catalyst) an alkane will be formed - pentane
