The genetic diversity of species is measured by comparing differences in the base sequence of DNA or differences in the base sequence of mRNA.

Give 2 other ways in which the genetic diversity between a species is measured? (2 marks)

You can compare amino acid sequences and similarities between antigens/antibodies, there is also the dna hybridisation method which separates strands of dna from different species and joins them together to create “hybrid” dna, then this is heated and the temperature at which the strands separate is measured. Higher temp means more hydrogen bonds formed between the strands and this indicates how similar the dna strands are.
Hope that helps
