The novel Children of Blood and Bone is a young adult fiction written by Tomi Adeyemi. In a West African dystopian world filled with magic, the heroine Zelie is used to explore social inequality, racism, xenophobia and genocide as she attempts to gain justice and restore magic.

On release of this novel, Tomi Adeyemi stated that her writing was inspired by the helplessness she felt when viewing police brutality and social injustice for black citizens in America. A well as this, she also loved novels such as Harry Potter and by combining all the themes she would be taking a different approach to social commentary on racism and social/ political issues.

Aside from the social commentary, readers have the chance to see the perspective of a teenagers as they face life or death situations as well as dealing with the pressure of adults. They are thrown into adult issues and are conflicted with either following expectations or making decisions based on their emotions and personal desires.

The readers indulge in a novel filled with a fluctuation of emotions. Pain, anger, frustration and joy are some of many felt throughout this surreal read. Tomi Adeyemi has successfully written a novel that achieves multiple things such as morale, reference to social and political issues and the exploration of young minds.
It's not advised to put your own written work on TSR (or any online platform), as someone could then take your work and submit it as their own... be careful!
