I bet you're one of those people who says Berkshire rather than Barkshire, on the basis of "that's how it's spelled". Surely it should be clear that English spelling is not phonetic.

They would be correct if they were American, as that is how Clerk is said in AmE. However, seeing as this is a British forum, I am going to assume they are British and thus they are wrong.

1. A company can determine how people are meant to pronounce the name of said company; it is not the same as a dictated word.
2. I don't know what 'extra' means in that context.
3. I've just said that English spelling is not phonetic; based on that, how could you possibly make any assumption about how I would pronounce a word?
