I've seen quite a few people recommend doing compound exercises as it encourages the release of HGH, but I was just thinking today and was wondering what causes this release of HGH? How do compounds encourage that?

    Thanks.

Those people are idiots. There is a release of hGH for some reason or the other, but you shouldn't worry about it as this release is so insignificantly small, it might as well not be there.

Isn't to do with the fact that legs have the largest potential for growth (or very close to back), hGH is secreted with a larger body mass. therefore Legs have the greatest (or close to back) potential to promote hGH release.

    Or something along those lines.

hGH isn't what makes muscle grow though. hGH is a global growth agent, isn't specific for one region.

Anyhow, there was a study done on this and it found that yes, most weight training exercise do release hGH (unknown reason.) but the increase was so small that it was considered insignificant, and the claim was mucked.

I recommend compounds because the alternatives are
    1. Isolation
    2. Not training.

That's the kind of homo crap that goes on at Rutland Hall.

so taking this into account, HYPOTHETICALLY speaking, if you were to have a program that worked every muscle but only with isolations then you would experience the same level of hypertrophy? if not more.

Nope, as isolation movmements do not stress the ligaments and tendons in the way that compounds do, which limits the size a muscle can grow to. And we all know compounds pile on way more mass and thus are causing more hypertrophy than isolation excercises.
If you combined the two however in terms of bbuilding once you were advanced sounds like the ideal solution.

This won't matter, because hGH isn't the reason muscle grows, although it is a factor. Isolations don't stress the body as a unit, and the body adapts to stress as a unit. For example, you won't get huge biceps by doing variations of bicep curls all day. Compounds are the best way to train, trainers, trainees, doctors, sports physiologists all say the same thing. If you want hypertrophy, use compounds to get that hypertrophy by doing lighter sets with high repetitions.
