Hi, I'm doing some revision but can't see in my notes about how the episodic buffer encodes. Can anyone help? If I was to take a guess it would be modality free, but does anyone know?

I'll copy out my notes for you:
EPISODIC BUFFER
- added by Baddeley in 2000 as the model needed a general store
- explains how it is possible to temporarily store information combined from the central executive, phonological loop and visuospatial sketchpad
- used for the intergration and brief storage of information from the other components and from LTM
- BUFFER -> holds information temporarily (modality free) + EPISODIC -> binds things together into chunks/episodes.
RESEARCH
- Prabhakaran et al (2000) used fMRI scans to find greater right-frontal brain activation for combined verbal and spatial information, but greater posterior activation for non-combined information, provided biological evidence of an episodic buffer that allows temporary storage of intergrated information.
Hope that helped!!
